William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac
My wife introduced me to Kerouac. I attempted twice to read On The Road but to no avail as my mind was unable (unwilling?) to submit to his style that breaks from conventional style. At the time, I had never read such a voice.
It wasn’t until I read Burrough’s JUNKY that I could finally digest Keroauc and have him take his place as one of my favorite writers.
Burroughs was my gateway drug to the Beats.
"Don’t you realize? The next time you see sky, it’ll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it’ll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what’s right for them. Because it’s their time, up there! But it’s our time down here!"
